I investigated the correlation between stitch length and seam strength on a variety of fabrics. With the mission to slow down the fashion industry and create sustainable, durable pieces, I was looking to see if there was a universal optimal stitch length, or if stitch length could affect the durability and longevity of clothing. A series of sown fabrics with different properties and weaving techniques were put under tensile testing in a TI-XT Texture Analyzer (TA) machine. The results of my research are discussed below.
